Oxx rewarded for his exceptional year

JOHN OXX was honoured by the Turf Club at Saturday night’s Moyglare Dinner in The K-Club.

The Curragh trainer enjoyed a memorable 2009 with Sea The Stars who completed an unprecedented run of six Group One victories, culminating in October’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

The Turf Club senior steward, Nick Wachman, presented Oxx with an award which is given at the annual dinner to those who have had an exceptional year or who have made a major contribution to the industry over many years.

Wachman said Oxx qualified on both counts and added: “John’s record over many years ensures his reputation as one of Ireland’s greatest trainers.”

Previous winners include Aidan O’Brien and Jim Bolger.

Wachman also confirmed on Saturday that he steps down as senior steward in two weeks’ time. He will be replaced by John McStay.
