MICHAEL OSBORNE, the senior steward, has called for a substantial investment to bring the patrol camera system and the other electronic resources of the integrity services of Irish racing up to the highest international standard.
He was speaking at the presentation of the 1995 Turf Club accounts, which show an operating deficit of £62,000. The main loss, £332,000, was incurred on providing acting stewards, officials, starting stalls, patrol cameras and photo finish equipment.
After a loss of £131,000 the previous year, the Curragh racecourse returned a profit of £12,000, but there was a deficit of £67,000 on the training grounds.
. Sacrament and Punishment made it a 1-2 for Britain in the Group Two Prix Jean De Chaudenay at Deauville yesterday. Olivier Peslier partnered the Michael Stoute trained winner who had half a length to spare over Punishment at the end of the rain soaked 121/2 furlongs.
