Moorefield ... 0-13 Garrycastle ... 1-4 A commanding second-half performance by Kildare champions Moorefield sent Garrycastle tumbling out of the Leinster club football championship in Cusack Park, Mullingar yesterday.
The Westmeath champions had no answer to the power play of the visitors who turned a two-point interval deficit into a comfortable six-point winning margin.
Garrycastle suffered a huge blow in the opening minutes when centre half back Seanie O'Donoghue, their star performer a fortnight ago when they defeated Portlaoise, was stretchered off with a knee injury.
Despite that setback the Shannonsiders settled down and with Des Dolan firing over two points they took the lead in the 13th minute. Two minutes later Gary Dolan scored the game's only goal when he pounced on a loose ball to give Padraig Canavan no chance.
The home side seemed to be well on track but all they could add to their tally over the next 45 minutes were two Des Dolan points, one just short of the break and the other five minutes from the end.
In the interim Moorefield, with midfielders Kevin O'Neill and Ronan Sweeney in complete control, went on a scoring rampage. Patrick Murray put on a vintage display of point-taking, kicking excellent points from play and from placed balls.
Ably assisted by Mark Sexton, Michael Ryan and substitute Brian McGrogan, Murray killed Garrycastle's hopes and finished with a personal tally of six points.
