Moorefield to learn of suspensions today

Leinster club football champions Moorefield will find out today if they have incurred any suspensions ahead of next weekend's provincial semi-final against Tyrrellspass.

The match was postponed from last Sunday so that the Leinster Council could complete disciplinary proceedings.

Last night the province's Hearings Committee was in session after Moorefield had opted to contest suspensions recommended by Leinster's Competitions Control Committee.

St Vincent's of Dublin await the winners in the final.

Meanwhile, Cork have announced selectors for the senior football team. Manager Teddy Holland was controversially appointed at the last county board meeting despite the opposition - and strike threat - of players to the withdrawal of the right of managers to choose their own selectors.

Nonetheless the county has pressed ahead with the completion of the management team. The most familiar name is Teddy McCarthy of Glanmire, the only player in the 20th century to start for winning senior All-Ireland football and hurling teams in the same year, 1990.

McCarthy's management experience to date has been confined to club hurling teams. The other selectors are: Mick O'Loughlin (Bishopstown), who has previously served in the role as well as being part of the management team that won this year's All-Ireland under-21 title; Diarmuid O'Donovan (St Nicholas's), who is well known in the county for his work with minor county teams; and Liam Hodnett, another former selector, from St Finbarr's.

It remains to be seen how many players will make themselves available in the new season. Cork aren't competing in this year's McGrath Cup and won't be in action until the National League in February.

This year's Referees of the Year are Meath's David Coldrick (football) and Cork's Diarmuid Kirwan (hurling), who both officiated at this year's senior All-Ireland finals.

The 2007 Munster Council GAA awards have been announced. Winners in the senior category are Waterford's Dan Shanahan in hurling and Darragh Ó Sé of All-Ireland football champions Kerry. Tipperary's Philly Fogarty gets the camogie award and Valerie Mulcahy of Cork wins the women's football category. Séamus O'Carroll from Limerick wins the handball award.

The GAA could lose large numbers of skilled administrators as a result of a new rule which prohibits county board officers from serving for more than five years, according to Tyrone chairman Pat Darcy. Three of Tyrone's key officers will have to step down next week.
