GOALS IN the third and fourth minutes from Michael White and Barry Walsh set up Waterford for a nine point win over Meath in a lacklustre game at Dungarvan yesterday.
Waterford led at halftime by 3-8 to 1-3, their third goal coming from Billy O'Sullivan in the 23rd minute, while Pat Potterton was Meath's goalscorer after 27 minutes of play. Meath had cut the deficit to just four points, seven minutes into the second half, when they scored 2-1 without reply - Ray Doran and Pat Potterton being their goalscorers.
Four points still separated the sides at the end of the third quarter but Waterford then reasserted their control of the game, with Paul Flynn goaling in the 48th minute and second half substitute Dave Bennett creating problems for the visitors' defence. Flynn, who was the home side's top scorer with 2-4, shot Waterford's fifth goal five minutes from time to make the league points safe.
