A record 80 golfers turned out at Westport golf club last week for the first outing of the season of the Christy O'Connor junior Oyster Golf Society. And despite the blustery conditions, Leo Loftus, a 16 handicapper from Enniscrone, amassed 42 points to win by five from another Enniscrone member, Jim Bowe. Steve Mahon (14) from Gort was the best of a group on 36 points which also included Billy Kelly (Galway) and Joe McInerney from Gort.

The gross prize was won by amateur international, Ken Kearney, who covered the Westport course in one over par for 35 points.
