Shaun Micheel failed to make a winning impression on US Ryder Cup captain Tom Lehman at the PGA Championship and does not expect a late call-up to the team.

Micheel, who would have advanced his claims for a wildcard pick with victory at Medinah Country Club, finished a distant second behind Tiger Woods after bogeying the last for a 69.

"I don't expect a call," 2003 PGA Championship winner Micheel told reporters after posting a 13-under-par total of 275, five strokes adrift of Woods.

"I was actually lobbying for Davis Love. I don't know how he finished but, in my view, he was swinging about as well as I've seen him swinging. He was playing great golf."

Love, desperate to represent the US at a seventh consecutive Ryder Cup, faded in the final round at Medinah, a closing 76 giving him a share of 34th place at two under.

The 1997 PGA champion needed to finish no worse than outright eighth to force his way into the top 10 in the standings.

With Micheel and others in the Ryder Cup hunt failing to shine sufficiently on the last day at Medinah, the automatic top 10 stayed unchanged from the start of the week.

World number one Woods, Masters champion Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Chad Campbell and David Toms had already clinched their spots. Chris DiMarco, Vaughn Taylor, J.J. Henry, Zach Johnson and Brett Wetterich retained positions six to 10.

However, Johnson, Wetterich and Taylor had to spend a nervous wait over the weekend after missing the PGA Championship's halfway cut.

Lehman will name his two wildcard picks today to complete the line-up for next month's showdown with Europe at the K Club in Kildare.

His options include John Rollins, Stewart Cink, Jerry Kelly, Lucas Glover and Love, who occupy positions 11 to 15 in the table.

Earlier in the week, Lehman said he had narrowed his possibilities down to six players but Cup veteran Love felt that scenario might have changed.

"He doesn't really have anybody from 10 down that's playing well," Love said. "He's got a bunch of guys playing good but they don't seem to be 10th and 20th on the list.

"He is in a tough position. I didn't really show him much and I don't think anybody else is either."

The 36th Ryder Cup will be take place from September 22nd-24th.
