GALWAY SHC SEMI-FINAL Gort 1-11 St Thomas 0-10:RICHIE CUMMINS was the hero for Gort as he blasted to the net two minutes from the end to book a place in the Galway SHC final.
Both teams struggled to get on top in the constant downpour at Kenny Park in Athenry.
St Thomas should have been more than 0-7 to 0-6 ahead at the end of the opening half. They were hoping to reach their first ever senior final but Gort showed more craft after the restart.
Gerry Quinn hit a super score from the right to edge Gort in front and in the 58th minute Cummins ran onto Aidan Harte’s ball to fire home the decisive goal.
The bid by reigning All-Ireland club champions Clarinbridge to put Galway SHC titles back to back for the first time fell victim to the weather yesterday.
Clarinbridge were leading by 0-5 to 0-2 at half-time in their semi-final clash with Craughwell when the game was abandoned because of the poor conditions.
