American skier Kristina Koznick won a floodlit World Cup slalom at Semmering in Austria yesterday. Koznick, whose only other win was in a night slalom at Aare, Sweden, last season, clocked a winning aggregate time of one minute 40.49 seconds.
Switzerland's Karin Roten, first in a pre-Christmas slalom on home snow in Veysonnaz, was second in 1:41.33 on Semmering's new Panorama piste. She was just ahead of Sweden's Pernilla Wiberg who clocked 1:41.37.
Koznick's success was her second podium finish of the season. She was second in Veysonnaz. "I have been competing and training under floodlights for 10 years already and I love it," said Koznick.
"After my good first run I knew I could win if I managed to keep my concentration."
