A SHARPER, fitter and more determined Kerry team easily overcame Westmeath's weak challenge at Cusack Park, Mullingar.
Kerry, recording their first victory in the league, raced into a 0-3 to 0-1 lead within six minutes and when man of the match Brendan O'Sullivan scored a goal in the eighth minute, Westmeath were fighting an uphill battle.
Kerry continued to apply the pressure, with O'Sullivan, who scored 1-8, Christy Walsh,
Brendan O'Mahony and Gerry O'Sullivan getting some excellent scores. A 28th minute goal from Gerry O'Sullivan more or less sealed victory for Kerry, who led 2- 9 to 0-3 at half time.
Westmeath, who shot eight wides in the first half, got their goal in the 32nd minute when Robbie Galvin scored from close range. However, the winners hit back with points whenever the need arose.
