The bitter dispute between Eoin Kelly and Mount Sion finally came to an end last night when the Waterford hurler completed a club transfer to the intermediate outfit Passage.
Kelly was present in Dungarvan last night as the Waterford county board's transfers committee sanctioned the move.
Kelly had to make a personal appearance to seal the move because his transfer form wasn't signed by the Mount Sion club secretary, Seamie Cleere.
Kelly had been in dispute with the senior county champions - for whom he has played all his hurling life - following the Munster club semi-final defeat to Toomevara last November. The former All Star was dropped for the two-point defeat by team manager Paraic Fanning and walked out of the ground.
However, Kelly soon made his feelings known in a newspaper interview and, as a result, he was suspended by Mount Sion.
"I'm contemplating finishing the whole lot - that's drastic, but it's not an overnight thing . . . it's been going on for months, years . . . If I go into a pub and have a Lucozade, I'm after having 12 pints," Kelly said at the time.
Kelly attended last Sunday's stormy Mount Sion club agm.
The intercounty star does not believe that making the step down from senior to intermediate club hurling will affect his game in any way.
"The club championships don't get going fully until Waterford are out of the championship anyway - you might only have one or two matches to get tuned up for the county," he said last night.
"But I'm just glad this whole thing is sorted out now. The field in Passage is literally a stone's throw from the house where I'm now living."
Kelly had also been linked with transfers to Mount Sion's senior championship rivals De La Salle and Ballygunner.
