Keddy secures the points

Newly promoted Dundalk snatched all three points, thanks to James Keddy's goal, three minutes from time, at Turner's Cross yesterday.

Keddy, the former Shelbourne and Derry City winger, scored his first league goal of the season after 87 minutes, when put through by Middlesbrough's on-loan striker Gerard Robinson. Keddy scored with a left-footed drive past Michael Devine and just inside the far post. The result leaves Cork City still looking for their first win of the season. Cork face St Pats in Dublin on Friday and meet Shelbourne in Cork on Sunday week; but are rooted to the bottom of the table today.

Dundalk nearly took the lead in the 33rd minute but Robinson's curling shot came back off the angle of the cross bar with Devine in the Cork goal stranded. Cork will be boosted by the news that Neal Horgan and Tony Tynan will both be back from the World Student Games in China tomorrow, and their manager Liam Murphy will add both names to his squad for Friday's visit to Pat Dolan's St Patrick's.

Meanwhile, in Division One Drogheda United jumped five places to take over at the top of the table with a 3-0 win over erstwhile leaders Limerick FC at Jackman Park yesterday afternoon. Derek Delaney shot them in front on 26 minutes, Dom Tierney added the second four minutes after the restart and the third arrived on 71 minutes from Declan O'Brien.

Cobh Ramblers beat Sligo Rovers 3-0 at the Showgrounds and Waterford United leapfrogged Athlone Town to come off the bottom of the table with a 1-0 win at St Mel's Park to leave Athlone Town still looking for their first win of the campaign and propping up the Division after five games. Barry Wood provided Waterford's winner on 34 minutes.
