Roy Keane's potential move to Real Madrid could be assisted by Juan Ramon Lopez Caro's intention to "build the best team in the world".
Lopez Caro is currently in charge at the Bernabeu after Wanderley Luxemburgo's departure, with Real looking to get their domestic campaign back on track.
Keane, who left Manchester United by mutual consent last month, has received offers from a host of Premiership clubs but is tipped to move to Madrid until the end of the season.
The Spanish giants have struggled in central midfield this season, with 34-year-old Keane seen as a solution. David Beckham has been deployed in an unfamiliar central role, while Pablo Garcia and Thomas Gravesen have struggled to find their form.
While Lopez Caro believes he has the personnel to achieve, he also revealed his long-term aims. "I have a great responsibility, it's not just about me as a person, I have to demonstrate that I'm competent, and fulfil the commitment I have to the fans," he said.
Signing Keane would unite the midfielder with former Old Trafford colleague Beckham, who understands the inspirational effect Keane has. "Every player that plays with him can never speak high enough of him," said Beckham. "He is a player who will lead from the front, get a team going. He is also a player who will tell you when you have done something wrong and something right. You know where you stand with him, he'll tell you in his own special way."
Bolton are among the English clubs interested in Keane, with chairman Phil Gartside set to present a formal offer to the player's representatives.
Everton manager David Moyes, asked about the club's interest in Keane, added after yesterday's match against Manchester United: "It's well documented we are interested. I hope we have a chance of getting him but we've had no answer yet."
