Heavy rain has once again hit racing causing the abandonment of today's cards at Plumpton and Wetherby

Heavy rain has once again hit racing causing the abandonment of today's cards at Plumpton and Wetherby. And fixtures later in the week are also under threat from flooding and waterlogging.

There will be an inspection at 8.00 a.m. this morning for Hereford's meeting tomorrow. The course is flooded and prospects for racing are described as "poor".

Bangor is set to hold an all-hurdle programme on Wednesday after the three chases scheduled to take place were abandoned following an inspection on Friday.

However, a further inspection is set to take place at 9.00 a.m. today as the chase course is waterlogged and the hurdle course is flooded in places.

The British Horseracing Board has approved two new races for the fixture, the Bodfari Stud Juvenile Hurdle over 17 furlongs and the Clwyd Novices' Hurdle over three miles.

There is also waterlogging at Thursday's meetings at Exeter and Towcester.

Wetherby's meeting was called off after an 8.30 inspection yesterday morning found the course to be waterlogged in places.

Head groundsman Ian Ward said: "We had six millimetres of rain overnight and the course is still flooded on the York Road side.

And today's meeting at Plumpton became the 26th meeting to be abandoned this season following heavy overnight rain.
