GAELIC GAMES:SEÁN JOHNSTON'S transfer from Cavan to Kildare was yesterday turned down by the GAA's Central Competitions Control Committee.

Johnston has made a number of applications to switch from his home club Cavan Gaels to St Kevin’s in Straffan.

The transfer needed to go through before this weekend, as a player transferring from one county to another needs to have played in the latter’s county championship. St Kevin’s are due to play today and no other championship fixtures are scheduled before Kildare begin the Leinster championship against Offaly next month.
