Motor Sport NewsPeter Dempsey and Neville Smyth finished first and second in the Walter Hayes Trophy final last year, and, although the two crashed out of the recent Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch, they start favourites for a repeat performance at Silverstone on Sunday.

The Walter Hayes Trophy meeting, named after the late Ford director who was instrumental in sanctioning the Ford Cosworth DFV Formula One engine, is the biggest Formula Ford event in the world, attracting over 150 competitors.

As well as Dempsey and Smyth, Ireland will be represented by Peter's older brother Keith, Robert Barrable and Patrick McKenna, who scored an Irish 1-2-3 in the festival. Also entered are Noel Dunne, Wayne Boyd and Dave Collier.
