9.51am Canoeing

Polish native Andrzej Jezierski, now representing Ireland, bowed out at the semi-final stage of the (C1) 200m at Eton Dorney this morning. Having finished second in his heat to qualify for the semi-final the 32 year old Cork based canoeist came home fourth in the latter race. He will go in tomorrow's B Final.

1.30pm Boxing

Ireland's Paddy Barnes was agonisingly beaten on a countback by China’s Shiming Zou after the fighters were tied at 15-15 following the three rounds of their semi-final this afternoon. Four years ago the Chinese fighter, the world and Olympic champion beat Barnes 15-0 but this time he squeezed through on a countback 45-44.

John Joe Nevin produced a scintillating performance to beat Cuban world champion Lazaro Alvarez Estrada 19-14 and he will now fight Britain's Luke Campbell for a gold medal at 8.45pm tomorrow night.

7.10pm Athletics

Only three of the 16 teams competing in the two heats of the 4x400m relay this evening have gone slower than Ireland this year, so there doesn’t appear to be much hope of a final place for the quartet taking to the track tonight. Joanne Cuddihy, Marian Heffernan, Michelle Carey and Claire Bergin are the likely four in Heat 2, in which the USA, Britain, Russia and the Czech Republic will feature prominently. A national record would be a welcome return for Ireland, though you can never rule out some relay mayhem.

8.45pm Boxing

Another Cuban stands between Ireland and a silver medal. Robeisy Ramirez Carrazana (18) beat home favourite and world number one Andrew Selby in his third fight to advance this far and Belfast man Michael Conlan will need all the street smarts he showed against Nordine Oubaali plus a bit extra to guarantee himself a place in the final. Ramirez Carrazana’s style might suit the 20-year-old a little better in a fight where he can showcase his undoubted skill.
