GOOD COUNSEL, New Ross, holders of the Leinster Colleges SFC A title for the past two seasons, lost their provincial crown at Dr Cullen Park, Carlow, yesterday to a highly impressive and well organised St Patrick's, Navan.

The Navan school, coached by Colm O'Rourke, recovered from the concession of a fifth minute goal from Good Counsel's Keith O'Grady.

By half time, St Patrick's led by 0-7 to 1-3, but Good Counsel showed admirable resilience and were in front by the 38th minute through a point from corner forward Eamon Whelan (1-6 to 0-8). But St Patrick's re discovered their fluency for the final quarter. In the 56th minute, a move which originated in their full back line finished with right full forward Alan Fox crashing home a superb goal. Time ran out on Good Counsel as their title slipped away.
