The Irish FA has formally submitted a planning application for the proposed redevelopment of Windsor Park.

The £29.2 million project, with £25.2m provided by the British government, would see the stadium expanded to an 18,000-seat capacity.

Irish FA chief executive Patrick Nelson said: “We had made it a key target to have our planning application submitted by this date and I am delighted that we have achieved this.”

If the plans are approved, the IFA and design partners RPS hope work can begin on the new stadium by next September.
