PGA Grand Slam: This season's double major winner Pádraig Harrington shares the first round lead with Jim Furyk at the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Bermuda.

Harrington described this made for television event as a two-day jolly and he is now well-placed to go on and lift the €440,000 winner's cheque tomorrow.

Both he and Furyk opened with two-under par 68s at the Mid Ocean club in Bermuda where this season's four major winners are supposed to tee it up.

However, with Tiger Woods, US Open champion and world number one, sidelined with a long term knee injury and Harrignton picking up both the British Open and the US PGA title, there was a need for two alternates.

Trevor Immelman is in the select fourball by virtue of his win at the US Masters but the South African slumped to a disappointing opening 76.

World number two Phil Mickelson had been asked to play in the event but declined which made way for Furyk to take his place in the group.

South Africa's Retief Goosen booked his place as he topped this year's Major Champions' points list. He opened with a level par 70 to be two off the lead heading into tomorrow's final round.

This is the 26th staging of the event and with a prize pot of €991,000 to be split between four players, the player in last place still walks away with €147,000.
