ELEVEN horses were yesterday declared for the Juddmonte International Stakes at York on Tuesday, headed by last year's winner Halling and Sussex Stakes hero First Island.

Ladbrokes and Coral rate 1995 Juddmonte International and, dual Coral Eclipse Stakes winner Halling as favourite at 9 to 4 and 5 to 2 respectively whereas William Hill make First Island the market leader at 5 to 2 with Halling an 11 to 4 chance.

Ladbrokes' spokesman Ian Wassell said: "Halling's performance at Sandown sets the standard for the other contenders to aim at."

"His victory in the race last year was tremendously impressive and he is deservedly favourite, especially as the form of First Island's Sussex Stakes win has taken a knock with Charnwood Forest's run at Deauville this afternoon.

"However, this year's race looks very competitive and should provide a great start to an excellent week's racing."
