BOTH SIDES desperately need to win this one, while the tournament generally would be boosted by the host side taking the three points and maintaining their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals, at least until Sunday evening's last round of Group A games.

For Kobi Kuhn the main question is how to cope with the absence through injury of captain and main goalscorer Alexander Frei but while there is pressure to give young FC Basel striker Erin Derdiyok his chance, it's almost certain the veteran coach will stick with the gifted but all too erratic Hakan Yakin, who replaced him at the break last time out.

Johan Vonlanthen may also have done enough to play himself into the starting line-up with a lively showing after he came on against the Czechs. Tranquillo Barnetta would be the most obvious one to make way but that would be a gamble for, despite the 23-year-old's poor showing in the opening match, great things have been expected of him over the course of this tournament.

The Turks have more fundamental tactical and selection issues to deal with in the wake of their defeat by Portugal. One centre half, Gokhan Zan, is definitely out, having damaged knee ligaments in Saturday's game, and the other, Servet Cetin, is a major doubt with precisely the same problem.

Having to replace both would be a major problem for coach Fatih Terim, who must also figure out how to generate a bit more of a threat in attack.

Certainly Villarreal's Nihat Kahveci playing all alone up front did not work out well and bringing in Sabri Sarioglu along side him might help but at potentially significant cost to the midfield, which would have to be reorganised.
