England's Danny Grewcock is walking yet another disciplinary tightrope - just a week before England put their Six Nations Championship ambitions on the line against France in Paris.

The England lock could be in hot water after television footage appeared to show him stamping on Llanelli Scarlets outhalf Mike Hercus during Bath's Powergen Cup semi-final defeat at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.

Although the incident went undetected by referee Malcolm Changleng and Hercus was not injured, the 62-times-capped Grewcock might not escape.

Citing officer Ken Pattinson has 36 hours after receiving the video to decide if Grewcock should be reported to Rugby Football Union disciplinary chiefs.

If Pattinson decides Grewcock has a case to answer, a disciplinary hearing would be convened.

It is unclear if any hearing would take place before England face the French, but the slightest possibility of Grewcock finding himself in further trouble is the last thing head coach Andy Robinson needs.

The 33-year-old forward's career is littered with episodes of foul play, and red cards for club and country.

During last summer's Lions tour he was cited and banned for biting All Blacks hooker Keven Mealamu on the finger during the first Test in Christchurch.

He has twice been dismissed for use of the boot, an offence that also saw him suspended after England's 2004 clash with New Zealand in Auckland.

Big-screen replays of Saturday's incident suggested Grewcock stamped near Hercus's groin during a frenzied second half when Llanelli fought back from 13 points adrift to win 27-26.

"I was lucky I got the family jewels out of the way," said US international Hercus, whose 71st-minute penalty gave Llanelli victory. "It looks like it came across a bit worse on the television.

"It was a bit of a shock at the time. I think I had just gone in (to a ruck) for a clean-out or something, and I just spun out the other side."

Elsewhere, Robinson will require an early medical bulletin on Bath prop Matt Stevens, who missed the semi-final because of a shoulder injury.

The same problem sidelined Stevens from last weekend's Calcutta Cup defeat against Scotland at Murrayfield, although Bath had hoped he would be fit to face Llanelli, having initially named him in their starting line-up.

France centre David Marty has been ruled out of Sunday's match and will be replaced by Ludovic Valbon. "Marty sprained his right knee on Friday in a French championship match with his club Perpignan in Clermont-Ferrand," said press officer Lionel Rossigneux.

Munster's Barry Murphy, who was stretchered off in the 25th minute of Friday's Celtic League match against Ulster in Ravenhill, has been diagnosed with a dislocated ankle and fractured tibia.

The 23-year-old centre was discharged from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast and travelled back home with the Munster squad, but he is likely to miss the rest of the season.
