Power and McDowell in the hunt at Bermuda Championship

Taylor Pendrith leads at Port Royal after a second round of 61 on Friday

Séamus Power and Graeme McDowell both sit six shots off the lead after day two of the Bermuda Championship where Taylor Pendrith leads after a round of 61.

McDowell carded four birdies and a bogey on his front nine at Port Royal before picking up another shot at his 10th hole. A bogey on the eighth, his 17th, saw him slip back but a closing birdie was enough to sign for a round of 67.

For Power it was a 70 to add to his first round 67 thanks to a good fightback on his last few holes after a double bogey at the first, his 10th, dropped him back to two over for the day.

The Waterford man picked up birdies at his 14th and 15th holes before making an eagle at the Par 5 seventh. A bogey would follow at his 17th which saw him drop back to five under beside McDowell in a tie for 17th.

At the top of the leaderboard Pendrith is 11 under, one clear of Patrick Rodgers while English journeyman David Skinns also played his way into contention.

Skinns, who turned to delivery driving to make ends meet during the coronavirus pandemic, carded a second-consecutive 67 to post a halfway total of eight under par.

The 39-year-old from Lincolnshire is a veteran of the mini tours in the United States and earned his PGA Tour card for this season by winning the final event of the second-tier Korn Ferry Tour in August.

“I’m feeling pretty comfortable,” Skinns told reporters after a round containing seven birdies and three bogeys. “That’s half the battle out here, feel ordinary.

“I’m sure Tiger Woods felt every single movement was ordinary to him because he’s seen everything.

“That’s kind of where we all want to get to. We want to be in those moments, but have them feel like you’ve been there before. We go week by week.”
