Dublin 1-17 Wexford 0-12: Dublin had too much in hand for 14-man Wexford in a thoroughly disappointing Leinster quarter-final replay at Parnell Park, running out comfortable 1-17 to 0-12 winners.
An error-ridden encounter never caught fire at any stage, with only the displays of Conal Keaney and Ryan O'Dwyer standing out to any great degree.
The fact that Wexford played into a strong wind in the first half only partly explained the eight-point margin at the break.
They lost centre-back Andrew Shore to a red card after just eight minutes – fully deserved after he caught Ryan O’Dwyer with a wild pull across the head.
They could easily have seen wing-forward Garrett Sinnott join Shore on the sideline later in the half for an equally loose swing on Peter Kelly’s hand, but he survived with just yellow.
By then, Dublin were 1-7 to 0-4 ahead, their goal coming on 13 minutes when Paul Ryan collected Keaney’s long ball after a bad mistake from Wexford corner-back Eoin Moore.
Ryan’s finish gave Mark Fanning no chance and for the rest of the half he kept Wexford at bay with his free-taking.
Keaney and Peter Kelly chipped in with impressive points from play, sending Dublin to their tea 1-9 to 0-4 ahead.
And although they went to sleep for a couple of periods in the second half, Anthony Daly’s side were never in any real difficulty.
Three points on the bounce at the start of the half from Harry Kehoe and two Jack Guiney frees were answered in kind by three on the run from Dublin through Danny Sutcliffe, Keaney and Johnny McCaffrey.
A further score from David Treacy put Dublin 1-14 to 0-7 ahead with 15 minutes left and though Wexford knocked over five of the next six scores, the result was never in doubt.
Dublin now go on to meet Kilkenny in Portlaoise on Saturday. On this evidence, it’s hard to see them troubling Brian Cody’s men.
