US TOUR: Jim Furyk shot a flawless seven-under-par 65 to take a three-shot lead midway through the second round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in California yesterday.
Furyk, on 11-under-par 132, leads by three from first round leader John Mallinger, who added a second round 70 for a halfway total of nine-under-par 135.
The best round of the day was from Kevin Sutherland. He was playing Spyglass and shot a six-under 30 on his front nine and had move to nine-under-par after 15 holes before dropping his first shot at the seventh (his 16th) but quickly hit back with a birdie at the next hole to finish on 63.
Paul McGinley was level par for the day and three under for the tournament through 13 holes, while Padraig Harrington, playing in the same fourball, was three under after a first nine of 32. England's Greg Owen added a second round two-under-par 70 for a total of 138 and a share of eighth place.
LPGA TOUR: South Korea's Sun-Ju Ahn holds a one-stroke lead after the second round of the ANZ Ladies Masters at Royal Pines. The 19-year-old Ahn, who held a two-stroke lead after her first-round 64, added a 68 for a 36-hole total of 12-under-par 132 yesterday.
At the halfway stage of the tournament she leads Australia's Michelle Ellis by one and is seven clear of Karrie Webb, last week's MFS Women's Australian Open champion.
Sweden's Lotta Wahlin finished in outright third place two strokes further back on nine-under-par after a 67, while Australia's Tamie Durdin (69) and Ji Yai Shin (66) were at 136, eight-under.
Ireland's Rebecca Coakley failed to make the cut, which fell at even par 144, after a second round 79 left her well off the pace on 155.
Ahn posted three birdies in a row from the par-five third hole, picked up further shots at holes nine and 15 and carded her first bogey in 36 holes at the par-four 18th, where she hit her approach from the fairway bunker into the greenside bunker and then two-putted.
The stocky teenager, ranked 111th in the world, played on the secondary Korean Tour in 2005 and won the KB Bank Star Tour in her rookie year on the Korean LPGA in 2006.
Webb, the tournament favourite, had a 68 which took her to five-under-par for the tournament and tied for 13th position.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: Craig Stadler fired seven birdies and an eagle to take a one-shot lead midway through the first round of the Champions Tour Allianz Championship on the Old Course at Broken Sound, Boca Raton, Florida yesterday.
Stadler, on nine-under-par 63, leads by one from England's Mark James, who shot an eight-under-par 64, with Bobby Wadkins and Andy Bean two back after 66s.
Tom Kite, Morris Hatalsky and John Harris share fifth place on five-under-par 67 while Ireland's Des Smyth finished on one-under-par 71.
PORTUGUESE AMATEUR: Shane Lowry lost out in the first matchplay round of the Portuguese Amateur Championship at Quinta de Cima, Algarve yesterday. After qualifying in 25th place with rounds of 74 and 77 the Easker Hills man lost 3 and 1 to Spain's Iñigo Urquizu.
