Galway's four hurling All Stars will be taking to the roads in style next year following a decision by a motor dealer to give each of them a new car.

Portumna businessman Al Hayes, whose son Damien picked up his first All Star award in 2005, will donate a '06 Volkswagen Jetta to each of the winners in January.

His son Damien will be one of the recipients along with Portumna colleague Ollie Canning, who picked up his third All Star recently.

Castlegar's Ger Farragher, the top scorer in the 2005 championship, and wing back Derek Hardiman from Mullagh will also get a new car each.

Al Hayes sponsored the Portumna team which won the Galway championship this year.

In Wexford, Declan Carthy believes he has been treated harshly by new manager Paul Bealin who has not included him as a senior football selector for the coming year.

Carthy has been part of the backroom team for the past six years. When team manager Pat Roe resigned at the end of the 2005 championship Carthy, along with fellow selectors Ger Halligan and Michael Furlong, brought the team to the Tommy Murphy Cup final where they lost to Tipperary.

While Halligan and Furlong declined to stay on for a further year, Carthy made himself available "to offer continuity to the new manager".

"I feel that I've been treated wrong . . . I am self-employed but still gave six hard years to Wexford football but the turn of recent events has hurt me deeply. But I wish Paul and the players well. Maybe they can go that one step further next year, for I was the one who recommended Paul to the committee for the job."
