Seventy-five players who had qualified from clubs throughout the country took part in the second National Putting Championship at Mount Juliet last week. The 18-hole putting course features a mixture of par twos, threes and fours, ranging in length from 10 to 36 yards, with some very difficult undulations, bunkers and even water hazards to negotiate. Four players managed to go around in level par with Pat Foley (Borris) eventually winning in a play-off. Keith Feehily (Enniscrone) took second place ahead of former Irish Close champion Eileen Rose Power (Kilkenny).
CILL DARA golf club lost one of its most popular members last week with the sudden death of its president, Peter Donnelly. He was in his first year as president of the club and will be sadly missed by all.
