A fired-up St Flannan's caught a fancied Intermediate College, Killorglin by surprise in this tension packed Munster Colleges' senior football semi-final, played in dreadful weather conditions at Feenagh yesterday.
Wind-assisted in the first half, it took the Ennis boys until the 18th minute to open their account with a point by Darragh Shannon. Harry Bowden already had a point on the scoreboard for Killorglin.
Flannan's upped the tempo and by the halfway stage were 0-4 to 0-1 in front with two points from Stephen Hickey and one from Owen Curtin. However, it must have been a worry that they had shot 13 wides.
Three minutes into the second half they stretched their advantage. As expected, Killorglin took over, but they, too, found scores hard to get and Barry O'Sullivan brought them closer with three points inside 15 minutes.
Owen Curtin gave the winners more breathing space and in a tension-packed last 10 minutes all Killorglin had to show for their efforts was a lone point from Shane Myers.
