Fildes can see the finish line

Jonathan Fildes starts favourite to win the Dunlop RT2000 Championship in the final two races at Brands Hatch this weekend.

On a score of 90 points, Fildes has a huge advantage over Derek Cunneely on 62 points.

The points scoring is 15, 12, 10, eight, six down to one for 10th, and, whilst Fildes is in a virtually unassailable position, the battle for second is wide open between Cunneely, David Donegan (56), Brian Donegan (54), Rod McGovern (52), last year's winner Johnny Whelan (48) and Mark Turley (44).

Also racing at Brands Hatch are Northern Ireland drivers Adam Carroll, Steven Kane and Gary Turkington who are expected to mount strong team and individual challenges in the Formula Ford Festival.

Three Irish crews Austin McHale and Brian Murphy in a Toyota Corolla WRC, Eamonn Eamonn Boland/Anthony Nestor and Derek McGarrity/Noel Orr in Subaru Impreza WRC's compete in tomorrow's Bulldog Rally in Wales.

Carrick-on-Suir Motor Club received 191 entries for Sunday's Suirway Stage Rally, but the event is restricted to 131 starters. The event will be run by a 90 per cent female team, with Ann FitzGerald as Clerk Of the Course.

Mayo and District Motorsport Club hold the first ever rally on Achill Island on Sunday.
