Fanad dumped by their Dublin visitors

Fanad United, giant killers so many times in the past, were dumped out in the first round in this all non-league clash.

Fanad United, giant killers so many times in the past, were dumped out in the first round in this all non-league clash.

The home side, runaway leaders in the Ulster senior league, had no answer to Whitehall who scored three times in the last 20 minutes. It was Joe Herron who broke the deadlock on 70 minutes. Fanad goalkeeper Damien Bradley fumbled the ball on the edge of his area and, as the ball spilled clear, Herron reacted quickest to fire into the empty net. Soon after Whitehall scored the second. Another mistake in the Fanad defence saw Tony O'Kelly intercept a back pass and he slammed the ball past Bradley from a narrow angle.

As the game entered injury time, Herron scored his second after being set up by his twin brother Dave.
