Five books you'd take to a desert island?
Catch 22 by Joseph Heller, Papillon by Henri Charriere, A Good Walk Spoiled by John Feinstein, Bonfire of the Vanities by Tom Wolfe and Cannery Row by John Steinbeck - a small read I know, but a great read.
Five CDs you'd take to a desert island?
Leonard Cohen's Greatest Hits, Obelay by Beck, Beautiful Freak by The Eels, Lou Reed's Transformer, Desire by Bob Dylan, and The Bends by Radiohead. I know I've picked six, but I find it difficult to even keep it to that. I'm an avid music fan and I haven't even picked anything by The Doors there.
Last book you bought?
The Miracle of Castel di Sangro which is by Joe McGinniss. He's an American guy writing about a soccer team in Italy. I'm half-way through it and it's very entertaining. There's only a population of about 5,000 in the town and yet they're a Serie B team. I'd never heard of it and I'd say I came across it in an airport because I travel every week and a I buy a new book every second journey.
Last CD you bought?
It was Lou Reed, but I can't remember the name of it.
Favourite movies?
I'm a gangster fan. I love The Godfather and The Godfather, part II, and Goodfellas is brilliant. I love When Harry Met Sally, it's very entertaining, but I haven't seen anything great in the cinemas lately.
Favourite actors/actresses?
Robert de Niro, even though I know that's a bit of a cliche nowadays. I'm a big fan of James Woods and Christopher Walken. I don't really have a favourite actress - anyone that isn't Julia Roberts.
Favourite drink?
Red wine, and Chateauneuf du Pape in particular.
What's the price of a litre of milk?
Favourite Sunday paper(s)?
The Sunday Times.
Dream car?
Jaguar E-type, Mk II, preferably in silver.
Last political party you voted for?
Hmm, good question. I've no idea who I voted for the last time. I never seem to be in one place long enough for a general election, I'm usually away and I think I've only voted once. I find their ideologies are pretty similar.
Dream holiday?
What I would most like is a log cabin in the Shetland Islands, bird-watching, and with Nicola.
Player you most admire?
Laurent Cabannes, without any hesitation. I used to absolutely adore him as a rugby player. Incredible skills. Then I played with him (at Harlequins) and I felt absolutely humbled playing beside him. A magnificently skilful rugby player.
When was your last hangover?
The day after Lens.
Three celebrities you'd have around for dinner?
The Claw, Germaine Greer. . . no, seriously, Roy Keane, because I don't know him, Michael Jordan and Elle McPherson.
What would you cook for them?
A healthy meal of pasta, with sundried tomatoes, salami, which isn't that healthy, fresh good cheese, lashings of Chateauneuf du Pape and large amounts of very strong coffee.
Do you watch other sports?
Not really, I'm not a great spectator actually. I'm a Man United fan, but I don't really watch TV much.
Last Gaelic match you attended?
The All-Ireland final, Galway versus Offaly, in 1998. I was shouting for Galway. People ask are you from the north or the south, I'm from the west.
Favourite restaurants?
In Dublin I would go for Finnstown Country House because the food is absolutely brilliant and the service is outstanding. My other one would be The Cherry Tree in Killaloe, which is superb.
Favourite phrase or saying?
The club will look after you.
