LEINSTER SFC Éire Óg 0-9 Colmcille 0-8: FORTUNATE TO escape with a second chance in the drawn encounter at Dr Cullen Park last week, Carlow champions Éire Óg eventually got the better of the Longford champions after extra-time in the Leinster quarter-final replay at Pearse Park yesterday.
Once again, the sides were deadlocked, 0-7 to 0-7, at the end of normal time, with both teams missing chances to snatch the winning score in the closing stages of this scrappy encounter.
After Anthony Gormley shot badly wide for Colmcille, there was a let-off for the home club in the second minute of stoppage time when Eric McCormack failed to find the target from close range but the Éire Óg corner-forward made amends in extra-time with a couple of points from frees that was enough to get his side through to a home semi-final against Offaly opponents Rhode on Sunday next.
