KIEREN FALLON paid the penalty for the Eclipse defeat of Bosra Sham yesterday when he lost the ride, leaving Pat Eddery favourite to replace him in future races.

His position as stable jockey to Henry Cecil seems secure but he will no longer partner the champion filly or last year's Oaks winner Lady Carla, both owned by Syrian millionaire Wafic Said.

Fallon learned his fate yesterday three days after taking the blame for his tactical failure on the odds-on favourite who finished only third behind Pilsudski on Saturday.

A statement issued by Cecil to the Press Association yesterday said: "I have decided, having talked to connections and in the best interests of the fillies, that Kieren Fallon will be replaced in their future races."

The announcement, which had been expected, followed the trainer's uncharacteristic criticism of Fallon on Bosra Sham, who he claimed should have won by six lengths.

But when later pressed to expand on the situation an angry Cecil rounded on journalists.

"Why don't you leave me alone. You're a bloody nuisance the lot of you! When I've got something to say I'll let you know," he said.

Fallon's response was to secure a treble on Monday and yesterday he opened the July meeting at Newmarket by partnering Craigsteel to win the Strutt and Parker Maiden.
