Dunshaughlin ... 1-11 Trim ... 2-6 After letting a six-point lead slip in the second half, Dunshaughlin found that little bit extra at the end of the Meath senior football championship final at Páirc Tailteann, Navan to take the title for the third year in a row.
After being outplayed to a large extent, Trim conjured up an unexpected rally. A somewhat lucky goal from a long-range free by Darren Fay - which went in off the hands of opposing centre back Michael McHale - was central to their revival.
Paul Gilsenan brought the sides level for only the second time when he slotted over a free with three minutes left and they fluffed a couple of chances to go ahead with Ronan Fitzsimons shooting wide and Gilsenan under-hitting an attempt at a point.
Just when the odds were on a draw, Dunshaughlin grabbed the initiative again with Niall Kelly hitting a sideline kick between the uprights and David Crimmins doubling the advantage after Ray Maloney blasted a shot against the bar.
In the second half Dunshaughlin's best-known player Richie Kealy was brought from attack to defence but, along with brother Denis, continued to put the Trim backs under pressure. Dunshaughlin lost sharpshooter Martin Reilly, who was sent off along with opponent Kevin Walsh seven minutes after the restart.
Although Dunshaughlin mostly dominated the first half, they led by only two points (0-6 to 1-1) at the break. That was because of an opportunist goal by Michael Lowther, who punched in a 45 from Brendan Murphy in the sixth minute.
It took the holders 12 minutes to get their first score with Reilly sending over the first of his three frees. They resumed brightly with points from Crimmins and Reilly before Lowther sent over Trim's first point from play four minutes after the restart.
Immediately after that Trevor Dowd, who had been brought back on after being substituted, grabbed the Dunshaughlin goal. Trim goalkeeper Mark Daly did very well to keep out a shot from Maloney but could do nothing about the follow-up.
After losing their way for a while, the holders regained their composure with their last two points coming in the three minutes of added time.
