Dubliner Yvonne Doyle is the only Irish player to merit a main draw place in the Irish Women's Open Tennis championships that begin at the Glasnevin club today.

Wild cards for the main draw have been allocated to Irish players Claire Curran, Elsa O'Riain and Karen Nugent. Doyle has been seeded number three following the withdrawal, on medical grounds, of original top-seed Marese Joubert of South Africa. The new number two is Terry Ashley of the US.

The draw is liberally sprinkled with players from Sweden, the US, Germany, Australia, Britain and France. The Dublin club, has double reason to celebrate after receiving a £125,000 Government grant towards redevelopment.

Play begins at 10 a.m. this morning.
