`Debutant' up to scratch

John Dunphy mastered the elements at Dungarvan on Sunday when shooting a very credible 79 to win the junior scratch cup. Playing golf for less than 12 months, he has proved to be a force to be reckoned with and has seen his handicap reduced to single figures for the first time. Meanwhile, Alan Harty will defend his senior scratch cup at West Waterford next Sunday. Harty will take a break from his studies to test his skill against another strong field.

The Irish Osteoporosis Society golf classic will takes take place on Friday week, May 21st at the Royal Tara golf club in Navan. The event, which is supported by Avonmore Super Milk, is organised to raise much needed funding for research into osteoporosis.

The Bank of Ireland are sponsoring a golf weekend at Skerries golf club on Saturday week, May 22nd, and Sunday, May 23rd. Saturday is an open mixed fourball while Sunday is an open men's fourball.
