Women's GolfClaire Coughlan swept into the knock-out phase of the women's British Open Amateur Championship at Royal County Down in Newcastle yesterday. The 25-year-old posted a two-under-par 73 to add to her 70 of the previous day.

Starting at the 10th, Coughlan began with three pars and bagged an eagle three on the 13th. A birdie followed at the 15th but bunker trouble at the 17th cost her a stroke. She three-putted the first for bogey and dropped another stroke at the fourth, but she finished spectacularly with an eagle three.

Beaverstown's Martina Gillen also carded a 73 for 147 to ease into the matchplay stages. Carlow's Tara Delaney posted a 74, one stroke more than on Tuesday while her sister Karen returned a 74, a 10-stroke improvement on the previous day.
