Fred Funk shot a four-under-par 68 to pull away from third-round co-leader Mike Brisky and capture the $216,000 first prize in the Deposit Guaranty Classic in Madison, Mississippi yesterday.

Funk, one of the top players in the diluted field with five PGA victories, posted his first win since the 1996 BC Open. The first prize moved him into the top 30 on the money list.

Richie Coughlan was also in form and produced his best US PGA Tour finish to date when he tied for 21st place. The Birr golfer was nine under par for Saturday and Sunday, shooting rounds of 67 and 68 to finish on 10 under par. Tim Loustalot, Franklin Langham and Paul Goydos were two shots off the pace. Brisky, who shared the third-round lead with Funk, carded a 74 for a four round total of 276 and a tie for 14th place.
