NUI Galway 0-18 Mary Immaculate 0-18:Mary Immaculate came close to marking their return to the competition for the first time in a decade with victory in Dangan, Galway, yesterday. But NUIG's Joseph Cooney salvaged a draw with two late points in a game dominated by free-takers.

John Conlon, who scored the winning point for NUIG to win the Fitzgibbon Cup three years ago, came back to haunt his old college with 12 points. He hit three after the restart to open a 0-14 to 0-11 lead after they had turned around level. The sides turned level at 0-11 but Conlon added three points in as many minutes and when NUIG hauled them back, the Clare player conjured a goal lead going into the final stages but Cooney snatched a draw with late points.
