Cooke's distinction

It's a nice honour to win the Golfer of the Year title once in your career, but to do it twice is something special

It's a nice honour to win the Golfer of the Year title once in your career, but to do it twice is something special. That distinction fell to Deer Park's Greg Cooke this season. Having won the GOY crown at the Howth venue back in 1993, Cooke did it again after a summer which not only saw him reduce his handicap to singles figures, but also saw him win two of the club's more prestigious events.

The eight handicapper - who had started the season playing off 10 - won John Laird's Captain's Prize and then topped it off by winning the singles match play where he beat Pascal Booth in the final.
