Cork SHC Semi-final/Cloyne 2-9 Newtonshandrum 0-13: For the third successive year Cloyne will contest the county final, and more important, the east Cork team have the chance to erase the pain of two final defeats, after a deserved win in yesterday's semi-final in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.
Their two goals proved critical, that from Paudie O'Sullivan in the 51st minute particularly influential.
Cloyne were sharp and hungry from the off, and led 1-6 to 0-5 at the interval.
Cloyne's 22nd-minute goal was the decisive moment of the half. Phillip Cahill's shot was blocked by Paul Morrissey, but the ball flew up onto the post and came back across the goal, where Cahill bundled it to the net.
In the second half Newtown rallied and reeled off four points to draw level. But with Donal Óg Cusack and Killian Cronin impressing, Cloyne regrouped, and with nine minutes left got the game-breaking score. Cahill was the creator and Paudie O'Sullivan found the space to make it 2-7 to 0-10.
Newtown trimmed the gap to one but Conor Cusack added two insurance points for Cloyne.
