Clare 3-13 University of Limerick 1-13:The Clare hurlers got their season off to a winning start with a quarter-final win over UL in the Waterford Crystal Tournament at Sixmilebridge yesterday.

Played in difficult conditions, the wind-assisted students enjoy a two point (0-8 to 0-6) advantage at the break. But from the re-start they had to play second fiddle to the home-side for the first 20 minutes of the half. Unable to achieve a score in that period they conceded a goal and five to Clare and trailed by 1-11 to 0-8 by the 55th, the goal coming from Nick O’Connell

Kieran Morris goaled in response for ULwho got within a point again before a pair of late goals from Seadna Morey and Alan O’Neill secured victory.
