Man Utd - 1, Monaco - 1 (Agg: 1-1. United lost on away goals)

United looked odds-on to progress to the semi-finals after drawing the first leg 0-0 in Monaco. However, weakened by injuries, they never really recovered from David Trezeguet's fifth-minute goal and went out on the away goals rule.

April 19th, 2000

Man Utd - 2, Real Madrid - 3 (United lost 3-2 on aggregate)

Alex Ferguson's fears after his side drew 0-0 in the Bernabeu were confirmed in the return leg at Old Trafford as United sank to only their fourth home defeat in Europe. Real went 3-0 ahead and held on to win, despite a gallant late fightback by United.
