RACING: Central House provided trainer Dessie Hughes with an across-the-card double when landing the opening Bandon Novice Hurdle at Cork yesterday in the hands of Ian Power.
Central House was originally scheduled to be partnered by Timmy Murphy. However, the British-based jockey experienced a delay when travelling to the track by train from Dublin. Murphy made up for that disappointment when given an armchair ride aboard the Liz Doyle-trained Greywell in the Mitchelstown Handicap Hurdle. The five-year-old could contest a similar event at Thurles on Thursday.
Power went on to land a double when Raven Rock stayed on tenaciously to deny the front-running I Can Imagine in the Lee Novice Hurdle. A winners of one will now feature on the Oriel Two Syndicate's itinerary.
Danny Howard was seen to excellent effect when forcing home On The Mend a game winner of the Fermoy Handicap Hurdle at the expense of Corskeagh Thunder and the Michael O'Brien-trained winner will now be kept to flights.
Roxelly displayed the greater resolution to collect the Cobh Mares (Pro-Am) Flat Race for her trainer/rider Sean O'Brien from Hits And Memories while Elbows Maguinness led inside the final one hundred yards to deny the front-running Commonchero in the bumper.
