Cork City rose to the challenge against the Scottish champions to play their part in a game that provided some exciting entertainment and a succession of brilliant goals.

Cork shocked Celtic by jumping in front after 41 minutes when James Mulligan ran clear onto a long ball from Derek Coughlan to beat goalkeeper Kharine for possession and run the ball into an empty net.

Celtic were on level terms just before the break when Jackie McNamara scored a cracking equaliser. Two first-class goals in the second half from Mark Burchill, after 49 and 75 minutes resulted from super passes from the popular Neil Lennon. In between times Kelvin Flanagan converted a penalty for Cork after 64 minutes.
