Bray Wanderers 4 Galway Utd 0:BASEMENT CLUB Bray Wanderers have given themselves a fighting chance of avoiding automatic relegation with an emphatic victory over Galway United at the Carlisle Grounds last night.
The Seagulls stay bottom of the table but are now level on points with fellow strugglers Drogheda United although with an inferior goal difference – but with a game in hand.
Bray went in front on 36 minutes after defender Seamus Conneely fouled winger Jake Kelly bursting into the box. From the resulting penalty, Kelly made no mistake when firing low past the diving Barry Ryan.
Bray stretched their lead when Gary Shaw, a recent signing from Newbridge Town, grabbed his second goal in two games on 59 minutes.
Winger Dean Zambra made the points safe when shooting home from close range on 75 minutes after another inch-perfect cross from Kelly on the left. The icing on the cake for the home side came on 84 minutes when Kelly slotted home a shot from 12 yards with Zambra this time the creator. It was only Bray’s fifth win of the campaign and will give them real hope of avoiding relegation.
