SCOTLAND extended their lead in Group Four on Saturday with a remarkably low key win over Estonia.
There were times, particularly in the 25 minutes before Tommy Boyd scored the first goal, when it looked possible that Estonia cause an upset. But Jim Leighton stood up well to the challenges. The goalkeeper, who will be 39 in July, has not conceded a goal in a competitive international since 1990.
Boyd contributed to another startling statistic when he scored his first goal for his country on his 43rd appearance. Having rushed forward to deliver a low, powerful drive which panicked the Estonian defenders into an untidy block, Boyd continued his motion towards the six yard line, from where he headed past Poom.
He also provided the cross in the second half which caused the unfortunate Meet [to meet it all wrong and volley the ball into his own net, clinching a precious victory.
