Bohemians aim to repeat history

Levadia Tallinn v Bohemians Kadriorg, Tallinn, 5

Levadia Tallinn v Bohemians Kadriorg, Tallinn, 5.0: Unlike their Dublin rivals Shelbourne, Bohemians have found Europe a rewarding hunting ground in recent seasons.

They will look to reach the second round for the fourth successive year when they face Estonian league leaders Levadia Tallinn in the UEFA Cup first-round qualifier tonight.

The sides met before in the Champions League opener in 2001, with Bohemians cruising to a 3-0 aggregate win. Levadia Maardu was their name then but they have since amalgamated with another club.

"I was out there last week when they were playing a reasonably better side in Flora Tallinn. They were not given any space to play but they have a very good centre forward and a good midfield but it's always difficult to judge when you are watching these games," said Bohemians manager Stephen Kenny.

"Overall, in strength and depth, their league wouldn't be as strong but themselves and Flora are the two best sides. They have won 10 and drawn three so they are in good form."

It's a plus for Irish sides to be competing in Europe halfway through the season but teams must also cope with the inevitable injury concerns. Colin Hawkins and Bobby Ryan were both left at home nursing damaged ankles, while Robbie Doyle was dropped from the squad after another poor performance last week against Limerick.

Kenny has resisted naming his side until later today but Tony Grant is likely to come back in alongside Glen Crowe up front.

If Crowe can get on the scoresheet he will become the top League of Ireland goalscorer ever in European competition with seven goals.
