Emer Kirwan had two shots to spare over Catherine Carty of Tullamore in winning class one of the Ford Ladies Championship, Western Region final at Athlone golf club last week. The Killiney nine handicapper shot 68 to win by two from Carty with Vivienne Houston (10) Northwest, taking third place on a count-back from Mary Madden of Ballinasloe.
Class Two went to Breege Solan of Ballinamore, whose 68 just edged out Mary Fitzpatrick of Templemore. Ann McNall from Co Cavan was the best of the 70s in third place. Phyllis Finlay's 69 was good enough to win class three with Prue Hamilton (Donegal) second with 70 and Mona McElroy third on 71.
